Authorities impose travel curbs ahead of local government polls in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has imposed a movement restriction across the state, citing the local government area election scheduled for Saturday as the reason. This restriction will be in effect from 12 midnight to 6 pm on Saturday, July 11.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASO Eno Ikoedem, revealed that the police will be working in conjunction with other security agencies to ensure the election is peaceful.

The statement outlined the rationale behind the restriction, explaining that it is part of a broader security strategy aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful electoral process, protecting voters, electoral officials, and sensitive materials, as well as preventing any breakdown of law and order.

As a result of this restriction, all vehicular and human movement within the state will be prohibited during the specified period, with exceptions made for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, accredited election observers, media personnel, security agencies, and essential service providers on election duty.

The public has been advised to comply fully with this directive, as security operatives have been strategically deployed across the state's eighteen Local Government Areas to enforce the restriction and maintain law and order.

Individuals or groups found to be in violation of the restriction or engaging in activities that could disrupt the electoral process will face consequences in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has assured the people of Edo State that adequate security arrangements have been made to safeguard the election, and he urges residents to exercise their civic responsibility peacefully.
