Authorities detain homemaker over purported domestic assault on spouse in Ondo

A housewife, Olatunde Mary, has been apprehended by police detectives in Ondo State for allegedly battering her spouse, following a domestic altercation in Akure that left her husband injured with a cutlass.

The incident is reported to have occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. and was subsequently reported to the Gender-Based Offences Unit, Command Headquarters, Akure, according to a police source.

During the dispute, Olatunde Mary allegedly assaulted her husband, Olatunde Julius, inflicting a severe cut on his left hand, which resulted in significant bodily harm.

The victim received medical attention, where the severity of his injuries was evaluated and properly documented, while investigators gathered evidence and obtained statements from both parties involved.

After a prima facie case was established, Mary was taken into custody and arraigned before a competent court to face prosecution.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, has confirmed the incident, stating that the command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to safety and dignity.

Abayomi emphasized that perpetrators of domestic violence will be held accountable, regardless of their gender, status, or relationship, and urged residents to promptly report such incidents to the nearest station or the GBV Unit.

The police spokesperson further stated that the command remains committed to upholding justice and protecting vulnerable individuals.
