Authorities detain female suspect in connection with fatal incident involving elderly grandmother in Katsina

A 20-year-old woman, Aisha Muktar Hassan, has been taken into custody by the Katsina State Police Command for her alleged role in the death of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan, following a heated argument in Daura Local Government Area.

The incident is reported to have occurred on June 12, 2026, at approximately 7:00 pm, according to the police, who stated that a dispute had broken out between the suspect and the deceased prior to the incident.

A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, on Wednesday, revealed that the matter was brought to the attention of the authorities by the suspect's father, Muktar Muhammad Hassan, 39, at the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station.

According to the statement, the police were able to apprehend Aisha Muktar Hassan, a 20-year-old female, in connection with the death of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan, in Daura LGA, Katsina State.

On June 12th, 2026, at around 8:00 pm, Muktar Muhammad Hassan reported to the police that his daughter, Aisha Muktar Hassan, had been involved in a misunderstanding with her grandmother at about 7:00 pm on the same date, which ultimately led to a violent altercation.

During the altercation, Aisha Muktar Hassan allegedly struck her grandmother on the head with a wooden chair, causing significant harm.

Police operatives quickly responded to the scene, where they found the victim unconscious and lying in a pool of blood, and immediately transported her to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

Unfortunately, the victim was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty while receiving treatment, according to the police statement.

As part of the investigation, the suspect was arrested and confessed to committing the offense, and she is currently being held in custody, pending charges to be filed in court upon completion of the investigation.
