Authorities apprehend suspect accused of fatally assaulting spouse in Nasarawa

A 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, has been apprehended by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly committing culpable homicide against his 20-year-old wife in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 12th July, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m, prompting a complaint to be filed at the Agyaragu Police Division, which alleged that the suspect had assaulted his wife, ultimately leading to her death.

The deceased, who had been married to the suspect for six years, left behind two children, a boy and a girl, following her tragic demise.

According to a press statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Rahman Nansel, the Divisional Police Officer swiftly deployed patrol personnel to the scene upon receiving the report.

The victim was subsequently evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for a medical examination and preservation, while the suspect was taken into custody.

During questioning, the suspect purportedly admitted to committing the act, citing anger as his motivation after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food, which led to a heated argument and subsequent physical altercation.

Although the suspect expressed remorse for his actions, he claimed that his wife's refusal to cook had sparked the violent outburst that ultimately resulted in her death.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a thorough and expedited investigation.

The Commissioner of Police has assured the public that justice will be served and that the suspect will be prosecuted in court once the investigation is complete.

Shetima Jauro Mohammed strongly denounced all forms of domestic violence, describing the incident as a tragic and avoidable loss of life.

The Commissioner urged couples and family members to adopt dialogue, patience, and lawful means of resolving disputes, emphasizing that no misunderstanding justifies the loss of a human life.
