Authorities apprehend alleged perpetrators of cable sabotage, seize equipment in Nasarawa

A recent operation by the Nasarawa State Police Command led to the apprehension of two individuals suspected of vandalizing electric cables, during a standard patrol along the Gitata–Gunduma Road in Karu Local Government Area.

The arrest was made by a patrol team from the Gitata Division in the early hours of Friday, marking a significant development in the effort to curb cable vandalism in the area.

According to a statement released by Superintendent of Police Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects have been identified as Chigozie Igbokwe and Emmanuel John, both 41 years old and residents of Jikwoyi in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The suspects were intercepted at approximately 5:54 a.m. while allegedly transporting vandalized electric cables, providing significant evidence for the investigation.

Upon searching the suspects, items such as iron cutters, pliers, spanners, and electric cables were recovered, further solidifying the case against them.

A grey Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 44 PM was also seized, as it was allegedly used to transport the vandalized items, playing a crucial role in the suspected criminal activity.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a more in-depth investigation and potential prosecution.
