The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended 42 individuals suspected of engaging in illicit mining activities, following the kidnapping of a traditional leader in Ifelodun Local Government Area, according to a confirmation by the authorities.

This development is part of the ongoing investigation into the abduction, which occurred on Saturday evening when armed men stormed the monarch's residence in Olayinka community, as disclosed by Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi in a Monday interview.

Adekimi explained that the arrests were facilitated through a coordinated operation leveraging surveillance tools and other resources, with police operatives acting on intelligence to apprehend the suspects.

He noted that the investigation is still underway to ascertain the level of involvement of those arrested and to identify the actual perpetrators of the abduction, stating that all suspects are currently in custody.
