Attorney issues 3-day deadline for authorities to apprehend Igbinedion school tormentors

A shocking video has emerged, capturing the brutal assault of a student at Igbinedion Education Centre, a private secondary school in Benin City, Edo State, sparking widespread outrage and prompting senior lawyer Abdullahi Dania to take action.

Dania has given the Nigeria Police Force a 72-hour ultimatum to arrest and prosecute those responsible, warning that failure to do so by March 19, 2026, will lead him to initiate legal proceedings to compel the police to act.

The disturbing footage reveals senior students forcing four junior male students into an empty hall within the school's boarding facility, where they are subjected to a vicious attack, including flogging, kicking, and being smashed against the wall.

One of the victims, unable to escape, was singled out and beaten mercilessly, despite pleading for mercy, in a scene that has left many horrified and demanding justice.

Although the school management has expelled the students involved, the public is calling for their prosecution as a deterrent, with Dania specifically demanding the arrest of Choice Osarumen Asoro and Dino Uyi.

Dania has criticized the police for requiring a formal complaint before investigating, pointing out that under Nigerian law, the state is the complainant in violent crimes such as assault, and therefore, the police should act without delay.

The lawyer has also urged the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja to investigate systemic bullying and possible cult-related activities within the school, citing additional footage showing eight students attacking four others in a separate incident.

Dania has recommended that the school implement immediate reforms, including the installation of CCTV cameras, the creation of an independent investigative panel, and a strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against bullying.

Dania has confirmed his willingness to prosecute the case pro bono, in the public interest, to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
