Attempt on His Life: Peter Obi Vows to Travel Anywhere in Nigeria Unhindered

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has asserted that his freedom of movement across Nigeria cannot be curtailed by any individual or group, citing the constitutional right to unrestricted travel that applies to all citizens.

This declaration was made in response to a recent incident in Benin City and subsequent warnings on social media advising him against visiting certain areas of the country, which he addressed during a visit to Peter University in Achina, Anambra State.

Obi emphasized his Nigerian citizenship and the corresponding right to travel freely, stating "I am a Nigerian and I am free to go to any part of this country, a right that nobody can take away from me."

Despite receiving warnings, Obi travelled to Rivers State, honouring a prior invitation shortly after the Benin incident, demonstrating his commitment to exercising his constitutional right to free movement.

He also reaffirmed his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the African Democratic Congress, expressing his dedication to participating in the democratic process and his desire to see meaningful reforms in Nigeria.

Obi clarified that his ambition is not driven by a desperation to hold the presidency, but rather by a determination to create a functioning Nigeria, where institutional strength and opportunities for citizens are paramount.

He envisioned a Nigeria where social mobility is possible for all, regardless of background, saying "We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody."

Obi's decision to leave the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress was attributed to internal leadership disputes and concerns over the party's handling of court judgments, which ultimately influenced his choice to switch platforms ahead of the next election cycle.
