Atiku offers condolences to Okonjo-Iweala following the passing of her younger sibling

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reached out to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, to offer his condolences on the passing of her younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo.
nIn a message posted on his X account on Monday, Atiku expressed sympathy for the former Nigerian finance minister and her family, acknowledging the pain of their loss and praying for strength for those grieving.
nAtiku's message to Dr. Okonjo-Iweala read: “Dear Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the recent loss of your beloved younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, who, until his passing, was a respected member of the Umu Obi Obahai royal family of the Ogwashi-Uku kingdom in Delta State,”
nHe further added: “I understand how deeply painful it is to bury a family member, and my family and I hold you and yours in our thoughts and prayers, hoping you and your loved ones find strength during this difficult time, and praying that his soul rest in peace.”
nPrince Ikechukwu Okonjo, a member of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family of the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom in Delta State, passed away on May 30, 2026, as announced by the Palace Secretary, Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, on Sunday.
nThe Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, His Royal Majesty Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, remembered the late prince as a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, and dedicated uncle whose passing has left a deep void in both the royal family and the kingdom.
nAccording to the monarch, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo was “a proud and irreplaceable member of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family, whose roots run deep in the history, dignity, and tradition of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.”
