Atiku Debunks Rumors of Quitting Politics, Affirms He Remains in the Fray

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has categorically denied rumours of his withdrawal from active politics, describing such claims as a deliberate and malicious fabrication aimed at sabotaging the African Democratic Congress's growing momentum.

According to Phrank Shaibu, Atiku's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, these allegations are entirely unfounded, and stem from a supposed meeting that never took place, where Atiku allegedly announced his decision to "step aside" from politics.

Shaibu clarified that although Atiku did engage with stakeholders in Adamawa State, there was no such meeting at the national level, and no decision has been made regarding his exit from the political scene, emphasizing that such a significant decision would not be communicated through unofficial channels.

Atiku's aide stated that any decision to withdraw from politics would be formally and explicitly announced through the proper channels, and that the current rumours are nothing more than a coordinated disinformation campaign triggered by the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shaibu argued that these attacks are a response to Atiku's position as a unifying force for political realignments across the country, where his consistency, national reach, and commitment to coalition-building have earned him a central role in the upcoming 2027 political equation.

He explained that Atiku's emergence as a centre of gravity in the political landscape is evident, much like the force of gravity in physics, which is observed rather than announced, and is a result of his unwavering commitment to the country's democratic process.

Atiku's camp further alleged that the false narrative surrounding his withdrawal is the work of a desperate establishment, which is unsettled by the growing consensus aimed at rescuing Nigeria from its current state of drift, dysfunction, and democratic erosion.
