Assault on Angwan Rukuba hinderance to Plateau state's bid for tranquility – Jama'atu Nasril Islam

The Plateau State Chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam has characterized the assault on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area as a significant obstacle to peace initiatives in the state, with the attack occurring on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at around 7:30 p.m.

In a statement released on Monday, JNI denounced the Sunday night attack, which resulted in the loss of several innocent lives and left many others injured, labeling it as a "barbaric, senseless and grave threat" to peace and coexistence in Plateau.

The organisation emphasized that under no circumstances should the sanctity of human life be compromised, and it was "deeply pained by the magnitude of this tragedy", declaring that such violent acts are unacceptable and must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.

JNI extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased's souls, while also wishing a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.

The group appealed to residents across the state to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against any form of retaliation or self-help that could exacerbate the already tense situation, urging citizens to exercise restraint at this critical moment.

The Muslim body called on security agencies, including the police and military, to immediately launch a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident, emphasizing that "justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done" to restore public confidence and prevent future occurrences.

JNI further urged the government, community leaders, and religious stakeholders to intensify efforts towards peacebuilding, dialogue, and reconciliation across affected communities, reaffirming its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, unity, and justice in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

In response to the attack, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area to restore order and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
