Armed Forces launch online discount shop

ABUJA — The Armed Forces of Nigeria on Thursday launched an online discount shop designed to provide serving and retired personnel, veterans and their families with access to essential goods at preferential prices.

The digital welfare initiative was launched at Defence Headquarters, Abuja, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Service Chiefs.

Speaking at the event, Akume described the initiative as a practical intervention to improve the welfare of members of the Armed Forces and their families.

He said the platform would leverage digital technology to make quality goods more accessible to military personnel at discounted prices.

In his remarks, Oluyede described the initiative as a demonstration of the Armed Forces’ people-centred approach to personnel welfare.

He disclosed that plans were underway to develop a comprehensive database, expand the number of participating vendors and establish physical outlets to complement the online platform.

A major highlight of the launch was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group for the implementation of the online discount scheme.

The partnership is expected to leverage digital technology and private-sector participation to strengthen welfare support for serving personnel, veterans and their families.

The platform is also expected to provide beneficiaries with greater convenience and affordability in purchasing essential household goods.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces to improve personnel welfare through digital innovation and partnerships with the private sector.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, also participated in the launch.
