Armed assault on Kebbi village, one resident seized, authorities verify occurrence

BIRNIN KEBBI — The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed a terrorist attack on Tsamiya community, during which property was destroyed and a resident abducted.

The attack, which occurred late on Saturday, prompted the immediate deployment of tactical security personnel to the area.

According to the police, armed assailants invaded the community on the night of June 20, firing sporadically and setting several structures ablaze, including a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a local brothel and the residence of a resident identified as Sule Mai Goge.

The attackers also abducted one Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare during the operation.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued early Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, said the Commissioner of Police had ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the affected community.

“The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed tactical personnel to Tsamiya Town following an attack by suspected terrorists in the late hours of June 20, 2026,” Usman stated.

He explained that security agencies responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack and moved to reinforce security in the area.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of additional security forces to secure lives and property,” he said.

Usman disclosed that a full-scale investigation had commenced, while efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

“A comprehensive investigation into the incident has since commenced, and efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim and track the perpetrators are ongoing,” he added.

The police assured residents of Tsamiya and neighbouring communities that security operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored.

“The Command assures residents of Tsamiya and environs that security operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored,” the statement said.

The command also urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

Police authorities said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
