Armed assailants raid Plateau village, claim lives of expectant mother and young man

Gunmen launched a devastating attack on Dyan community in Rim Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving a pregnant woman and a young man dead, with the victims identified as Mrs Happiness Pam, 32, and Daniel Luka, 24.

The attack occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, when the gunmen stormed the area and opened fire, throwing the community into mourning, according to sources within the community.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, vehemently condemned the killings, describing the attack as gruesome and unacceptable, and expressed its shock and sadness over the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.

The statement, signed by BYM's National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rwang Tengwong, lamented the persistent insecurity plaguing communities in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State, and noted that the killings were a senseless act of violence that affected not only the victims but also the collective peace and security of the people.

BYM extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as the people of Dyan community, Rim Village, and the entire Riyom Local Government Area, and called on security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The association also urged the federal government and Plateau State government to take proactive measures to protect vulnerable communities, and raised concerns over the worsening insecurity in the region.

BYM specifically highlighted the reported abduction of two drivers along the Kassa axis of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which occurred at around 10 p.m. on Thursday when the victims were intercepted and taken away by armed men.

The association called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts for the abducted victims and strengthen security along major road corridors across affected communities.

BYM advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid late-night journeys along vulnerable routes, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace and security across Plateau State.
