Argentina Defender Balerdi Ruled Out of Global Tournament

A calf injury has sidelined Argentina and Marseille central defender Leonardo Balerdi from the World Cup, according to an announcement made by the world champions on Saturday.
nThe 27-year-old player incurred a muscle injury in his right leg, prompting the Argentine federation to declare his unavailability for the tournament via social media, where they also expressed their desire for his swift recovery.
nOn Friday, Balerdi had posted a photo of himself engaged in training with the squad in Kansas City on social media, indicating his initial hopes of participating in his first World Cup.
nA replacement for Balerdi has not been named by Argentina as yet.
nLater on Saturday, Argentina are set to face Honduras in a warm-up match scheduled to take place in College Station, Texas.
nTheir tournament is slated to commence on June 17 with a match against Algeria in Kansas City.
