APM to unveil blueprint to revive economy, tackle insecurity

ABUJA – The Allied People’s Movement (APM) says it is preparing to unveil a comprehensive governance blueprint aimed at reviving Nigeria’s struggling economy, overhauling the country’s security architecture and restoring public confidence in governance ahead of the 2027 general election.

With households squeezed by rising prices, persistent insecurity and unemployment, the opposition party says its proposed agenda focuses on economic recovery, infrastructure renewal, job creation and a more people-centred approach to governance.

The proposals were outlined on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Yusuf, as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election amid growing public concern over the economy, insecurity and the rising cost of living.

“The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has developed a pragmatic, wide-ranging governance blueprint that will swiftly resuscitate the productive sector, rebuild critical infrastructure, revamp the ailing economy, pull the nation from the brink of collapse and restore dignity and comfort to the lives of all citizens,” Yusuf said.

According to him, the blueprint also seeks to restructure Nigeria’s security architecture to tackle terrorism more effectively and guarantee the safety of lives and property across the country.

Yusuf argued that the APC had governed Nigeria over the past decade, particularly during the last three years, without a coherent economic blueprint, resulting in what he described as anti-people policies.

The APM painted a bleak picture of the country’s condition, blaming the APC administration.

“Largely due to the APC government’s failures, in the last three years alone, official and independent reports indicate that no fewer than 628,000 Nigerians have been killed, with over 2.2 million others, including children and women, abducted. Poverty rate has hit a staggering 63%, with an unemployment rate of over 33.3%. More than 140 million Nigerians now live below the national poverty line.

“Today, our nation is in dire straits. Nigerians are heavily frustrated, agitated over bad leadership and earnestly seek a new beginning. It is clear that the APM, with its ideological base, structure and composition, is the only platform that embodies that solution and new beginning,” Yusuf added.

The opposition party also alleged that worsening insecurity, inflation, high taxes and declining public services had forced multinational companies to exit Nigeria.

It further claimed that the same conditions had fuelled the migration of millions of skilled Nigerians under the ‘Japa’ phenomenon.

The APM also faulted the country’s growing debt profile, alleging that reckless borrowing had pushed public debt to N159.28 trillion without commensurate development.

“More distressing is that the future of over 250 million Nigerians is being mortgaged to foreign interests by the APC through reckless borrowings, which have hit a frightening N159.28 trillion, with nothing on the ground to show for it, as most of the proceeds are reported to have been diverted to private purses,” the party claimed.

It said the proposed blueprint would prioritise inclusive human development, prudent resource management, industrialisation, youth employment, infrastructure renewal and more efficient public services.

“APM blueprint comes with a new and transparent approach to governance. An approach that puts Nigerians first, prioritizing inclusive human development and wellbeing through people-oriented policies and prudent management of resources that guarantee security of lives and property, industrialization, massive youth employment, national infrastructural revolution, efficient public service and sustainable prosperity for all.

“The APM blueprint is service oriented, forward looking and tailored to put Nigerians back to work, attract Foreign Direct Investment and boost private sector productivity through strategic investments in critical sectors, including oil and gas, power, electricity, agriculture and food production, manufacturing, education, housing and healthcare, among others,” Yusuf said.

The party said the full blueprint would be unveiled at the appropriate time as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
