APC selects Anyim, Masari to lead committees for 2026 presidential primary elections

The All Progressives Congress has appointed former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim to lead a seven-member committee overseeing the Presidential Primary Election, with other notable members including Sen. Ken Nnamani and Sen. Victor Udo Udoma. This decision was announced in a notice signed by the party's National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru.

Joining Anyim Pius Anyim on the committee are H.E. Otunba Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, Rev. Jolly Nyame, and Idris Wada as members, alongside Mr. Sanusi Musa, who will serve as Secretary. The committee's formation is a key step in the party's preparation for the upcoming presidential primaries.

A separate Presidential Primary Election Appeal Committee has also been established, with Hon. Aminu Masari at the helm and Mr. Samuel Piwuna as Secretary, as well as Hon. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh as a member. This committee will play a crucial role in addressing any disputes that may arise during the primary election process.

The party has deployed thirty-seven Coordinators and Collation Officers to various states and the FCT, including prominent figures such as Sen. Hope Uzodimma, who will serve as coordinator for Imo State. Other notable coordinators include Alh. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for Kwara State and Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum for Borno State.

The list of coordinators also features Sen. Bassey Otu for Cross River State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for Lagos State, and Sen. Monday Okpebholo for Edo State, among others. These individuals will play important roles in facilitating the primary election process in their respective states.

Additionally, the party has assigned coordinators such as Sen. Uba Sani for Kaduna State, Sir Siminalaji Fubara for Rivers State, and Hon. Yakubu Dogara for Bauchi State. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will serve as coordinator for Abia State, while Sen. Phillip Aduda will oversee the FCT.

The presidential primaries, scheduled to take place on Saturday, will be held simultaneously across all 8,809 wards in the country. This marks a significant event in the party's process of selecting its 2027 presidential candidate, which appears to be a coronation of the incumbent.

According to the outlined procedure, every registered APC member in each of the 8,809 wards will be eligible to cast a vote for their preferred presidential aspirant. This approach deviates from the traditional delegate-based model, which has historically concentrated the power of nomination in the hands of a select few party officials and delegates.

Results from each ward will be collated at the local government level by officers appointed jointly by the State Coordinator and the National Working Committee. This will ensure a transparent and organized process for aggregating the results.

State Coordinators and Collation Officers will then compile results from all local governments in their states and present them to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on the same day. This will enable the party to efficiently tabulate the results and declare the winner of the presidential primaries.
