APC Reiterates Pledge to Advance Women's Rights on International Women's Day

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commemorated International Women’s Day by acknowledging the pivotal role women play in fostering growth, stability, and development in families, communities, and the economy worldwide.

According to the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, the party has joined the global community in recognizing the remarkable resilience, strength, and invaluable contributions women make to society, as stated in a statement released on Sunday in Lagos.

Oladejo emphasized that successive APC administrations in Lagos have consistently prioritized policies and programs aimed at empowering women and expanding their opportunities, demonstrating the party's commitment to gender inclusion and women's empowerment.

The spokesman noted that women remain the backbone of families, communities, and the economy, playing vital roles in shaping a prosperous and inclusive Lagos, and the party is proud of its efforts to support them.

Oladejo highlighted that Lagos has maintained significant female representation in governance and public service, with women currently serving as commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of agencies, and High Court judges in the state.

This, he explained, reflects the party's belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and policy outcomes, and is a testament to the APC's dedication to promoting women's participation in governance.

The state government has also implemented various economic empowerment initiatives targeting women entrepreneurs, traders, and artisans, including microcredit schemes, capacity-building programs, and support structures for cooperatives, according to Oladejo.

These programs have supported thousands of women entrepreneurs, traders, and artisans, providing them with access to microcredit schemes, capacity-building programs, and cooperative support structures that strengthen household incomes and the state's economy.

Oladejo stated that women across markets, small businesses, and creative industries have benefited from these interventions, which have helped to strengthen the state's economy and improve the livelihoods of many women.

The spokesman also noted that Lagos has continued to implement policies to protect women and support vulnerable families, including social intervention programs that have improved the welfare and livelihoods of many women across the state.

These policies, he explained, aim to protect women from abuse, expand access to healthcare, and promote girl-child education, and have been instrumental in supporting vulnerable women and families.

Additionally, women in agriculture, technology, education, and the creative economy continue to benefit from training programs, grants, and innovation support initiatives, according to Oladejo.

The spokesman emphasized that the APC's achievements demonstrate its commitment to gender inclusion and women's empowerment, and reaffirmed the party's resolve to continue supporting policies that promote women's participation in governance.
