APC primary: Edo State House of Assembly speaker secures reelection, deputy speaker fails to retain position

Blessing Agbebaku, the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, successfully secured a third term bid on Wednesday, emerging victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary for Owan West constituency.

Conversely, his deputy, Osamwonyi Atu, was unsuccessful in his primary election bid for the Orhionmwon South constituency, losing to Mr. Ikpomwonsa Aitusi in the state's House of Assembly primary.

The primary election, held across the state, was generally peaceful, with party members arriving early to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.

In Akoko-Edo, former Deputy Speaker Yekini Idiaye, representing Akoko-Edo I, was defeated by Humprey Adewunmi in the bid for the party's ticket.

However, his counterpart from Akoko-Edo II, Donald Okogbe, won a landslide vote, ensuring his return to the house.

Uyi Omosigho, the lawmaker representing Oredo East, lost the primary election to Mr. Osamuede Edebiri, while Asonsere Nicholas, representing Ikpoba-Okha, was defeated by Ndidi Aghimien.

Additionally, Hon Bright Iyamu, representing Orhionmwon South, was beaten by Etinosa Odiase in the primary election.
