APC mocks PDP as Makinde poised to lead ‘One-Man Governors’ Forum’

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over what it described as his imminent emergence as the de facto chairman of a “one-man” Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.

The party said the development reflects the depth of what it called the PDP’s internal collapse.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said the opposition party has failed to maintain internal cohesion, questioning its capacity to govern a complex country like Nigeria.

According to him, the wave of defections by PDP governors to the APC has eroded the party’s credibility and weakened its structure.

“In its wake, Governor Seyi Makinde now stands on the brink of emerging as the de facto chairman of a ‘one-man PDP Governors’ Forum’—a development that perfectly captures the depth of the party’s collapse,” the statement read.

Oladejo described the situation as a reflection of rejection by key stakeholders within the PDP, citing what he called a lack of ideological direction and persistent internal crises.

“A political party that cannot keep its house in order, that hemorrhages its own elected leaders, and that offers no coherent direction cannot—and should not—be entrusted with the governance of a complex nation like Nigeria,” he said.

The APC further expressed concern over the implications for the country’s democracy, warning that the weakening of opposition politics could undermine democratic balance.

It urged opposition parties to adopt what it termed the APC’s “tested playbook” during its years in opposition, which it said were marked by discipline, resilience, and strategic patience.

The Lagos APC, however, maintained that it remains focused on governance and strengthening democratic institutions, urging Nigerians to reject political platforms it described as unstable and crisis-ridden.

“The future belongs to parties that demonstrate unity, vision, and the capacity to lead—not those struggling to survive their own internal contradictions,” the statement added.
