UMUAHIA – Former House of Representatives member and founding member of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Hon. Mezie Chiekwe Esiaga, has warned that the party risks a poor performance in the 2027 governorship election if internal disagreements over its primary are not resolved.

Speaking during a media chat in Umuahia, Esiaga said the party could face a worse outcome than it recorded in 2023 if corrective steps are not taken.

He expressed concern over the conduct and outcome of the party’s governorship primary, urging leadership intervention to strengthen unity and credibility within the party.

The former lawmaker suggested that the party should reassess its processes and ensure broader consultation among stakeholders to avoid further internal disputes.

He also called for greater inclusion of long-standing party members in key decisions, arguing that cohesion would be critical to the party’s success in future elections.

Esiaga further stated that he intends to formally communicate his concerns to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to support efforts aimed at stabilising the party in the state.

He said such intervention would help prevent avoidable political setbacks and strengthen the party’s chances in 2027.

Meanwhile, some party members in Abia State continue to express concerns over the outcome of the governorship primary and have called for a review process to address grievances and ensure internal reconciliation.

The party’s governorship aspirants have also raised objections through formal channels, with petitions reportedly submitted to the party’s appeal mechanisms, alleging irregularities in the process.
