APC Faces Backlash in Alimosho Over Disputed Primary Election Results

A group of All Progressives Congress members in Lagos State, known as the APC Alimosho Federal Constituency Synergy Group, has rejected the party's recently released candidates' list, citing that Mr Ganiyu Ayuba, the incumbent lawmaker, was the rightful winner of the House of Representatives primary election held on May 16, 2026.

The group's Coordinator, Idowu Martins, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to step in and ensure Ayuba's mandate is reinstated, emphasizing that Ayuba had garnered 31,021 votes and was declared the winner at the collation centre, while the first runner-up, Olabisi Adebajo, secured 2,739 votes.

Martins argued that the published candidates' list did not accurately reflect the official results of the APC primary election, stressing that only the party's national leadership in Abuja was authorized to release and announce such results.

According to Martins, Ayuba remains the preferred choice of APC members in Alimosho Federal Constituency, and his potential representation in the National Assembly would mark the emergence of an indigene in the role.

Martins also urged the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to prioritize the will of party members over personal interests, and emphasized the group's determination to maintain the APC's strength in Alimosho Federal Constituency.

The group's Coordinator noted that some individuals claimed to have closer ties to the President, but asserted that the President's connection to the people, particularly the grassroots, was more significant, and that they would be the ones to mobilize and vote for him in the 2027 general elections.

Martins appealed to President Tinubu to help reclaim Ayuba's mandate, warning that if the situation was not rectified, they would have no choice but to take action to make their voices heard, in an effort to prevent their people from taking to the streets in protest.

The Deputy Coordinator of the group, Donald Abuegbina, revealed that the party had initially chosen Ayuba as its consensus candidate before proceeding with a direct primary election, and claimed that there was video evidence showing the Returning Officer declaring Ayuba the winner of the primary election.

Abuegbina called on the national leadership of the APC to ensure that justice prevailed and Ayuba's mandate was restored, and emphasized the group's commitment to their cause.

The Iyaloja of Obadore Kingdom, Folashade Balogun, urged President Tinubu and the APC national leadership to intervene in the matter, highlighting the incumbent lawmaker's consistent support for market women through grants and financial assistance.
