Renowned British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was reportedly rushed to the hospital following a serious road accident in Ogun State on Wednesday.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred in the Makun area of the state when the Lexus SUV conveying the boxer, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck parked along the roadside. The impact of the collision was said to be severe, drawing the attention of nearby residents and motorists.
Sources at the scene disclosed that Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries in the crash and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Medical personnel reportedly confirmed that his condition was stable, though he was kept under observation as a precaution.
Tragically, the incident claimed the lives of two other occupants, who were confirmed dead at the scene before emergency responders arrived. Their identities have not yet been officially released, as authorities are said to be contacting their families.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agencies were later deployed to the scene to manage traffic, recover the wreckage, and commence investigations into the cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that poor visibility and the positioning of the stationary truck may have contributed to the crash, though investigations are still ongoing. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over road safety, especially the dangers posed by improperly parked heavy-duty vehicles on highways.
Members of the public have since taken to social media to express relief over Joshua’s survival, while also mourning the lives lost in the unfortunate incident. As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by Anthony Joshua or his management team regarding the accident.
