It has come to my notice that some private schools in Bayelsa State have commenced enrolling children for holiday lessons despite the state government’s directive on compulsory flood break.rnrnSir, this practice raises serious questions. If private schools are permitted to conduct lessons during this period, then what is the essence of declaring a compulsory flood break in the first place? The directive was issued to safeguard the lives and wellbeing of our children in view of the flood situation, and it should be strictly adhered to.rnrnUnfortunately, many of these private schools appear more interested in monetary gain than in the safety of the children entrusted to their care. By organizing lessons during this period, they are putting young lives at risk, undermining the government’s directive, and exposing pupils to potential danger.rnrnI therefore call on the Ministry of Education to act swiftly to enforce compliance, ensuring that all schools, whether public or private, obey the compulsory flood break.
