America's sightless trio wreak havoc globally, a commentary by Owei Lakemfa

At the helm of Washington's power structure are three key figures: Donald Trump, the President; Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State; and Pete Hegseth, who has been transformed from Secretary of Defence to Secretary of War. This trio is characterized by their greed, dishonesty, and disregard for the law, driven by territorial and colonial ambitions.

Their actions, including the perpetration of mass destruction and massacres in Iran, are justified by quoting scriptures, claiming divine approval for their crimes against humanity, which also marks them as heretics with a false sense of messianism. Their latest contradictions and lies have been exposed, with The New York Times reporting on March 16, 2026, that the Trump regime aims to oust Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Trump publicly declared his intentions, stating, "You know, all my life I've been hearing about United States and Cuba, when will the United States having the honour of taking Cuba? That’s a big honour…Taking Cuba in some form, yeah, taking Cuba — I mean, whether I free it, take it, I think I can do anything I want with it." This statement reflects a mentality of colonial theft and appropriation, characteristic of the "mouse mentality" of the trio.

However, Secretary Rubio dismissed The New York Times report as "fake", claiming that the media relies on untrustworthy sources, despite the fact that the report's claims have been publicly known for over six decades, long before Rubio's birth on May 28, 1971. The question remains as to why Rubio would blatantly lie about this matter, given the well-documented history of US-Cuba relations.

The recent US-Israeli attacks on Iran, which occurred on February 28, 2026, less than three weeks prior, were justified by Hegseth, who claimed, "We didn’t start this war, but under President Trump we are finishing it", effectively shifting the blame to the victim. The Trump administration's pretext for the war was that Iran had rebuilt its nuclear programme, posing a threat to the US and its allies.

However, the Director of United States National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, testified to the US Senate intelligence Committee, revealing that Iran's nuclear enrichment programme was obliterated as a result of Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, and that there have been no efforts to rebuild it since then. This contradicts the Trump administration's claims and suggests that the attack on Iran was actually aimed at preventing an international agreement on the country's nuclear programme.

The true motivations behind the attack on Iran may be linked to the country's significant natural reserves, with approximately 208.6 billion barrels of crude oil, the world's third-largest proven reserves, and 32-34 trillion cubic metres of gas, the second-largest reserves known to humanity. The US, having already invaded Venezuela, which has the world's largest crude oil reserves, may be seeking to gain control of the global oil and gas market.

Pete Hegseth, in particular, seems to be enthusiastic about the destruction and slaughter in Iran, having stated, "Death and destruction from the sky all day long… This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight. We are punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should be." His comments suggest a disregard for the rules of engagement and international law, with no concern for crimes against humanity.

Hegseth's personal history is marked by controversy, including allegations of financial mismanagement and rape, which led to a settlement with his accuser, and a history of problematic relationships with women, as described by his own mother, Penelope Hegseth, in an email. Despite these concerns, Hegseth was confirmed as Secretary of War after a 50-50 split in the US Senate, with Vice President James David Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.

Hegseth's extreme form of Christianity, which he openly propagates, has been compared to an ISIS-type Islamic jihad, and his actions and statements have been widely criticized. After a particularly devastating attack on Iranians, Hegseth was seen briefing journalists in his office, where he theatrically bowed his head in prayer, quoting Psalm 144 and praying for "unyielding strength to our warriors, unbreakable protection to them and our homeland, and total victory over those who seek to harm them".

The ongoing slaughter in Iran, the Gulf, Israel, and Lebanon, as well as the complicity of Western Europe, which seems more interested in seeing Iran destroyed than in working towards a ceasefire, suggests that further attacks on nations by the trio are likely. To prevent this, it is essential for people committed to peace, progress, social justice, and development to unite against the warmongers and extremists.
