America imposes penalties on four nonprofit groups accused of financing Hamas

The measures were implemented under Executive Order 13224, which grants the U.S. government the authority to target individuals and entities suspected of supporting terrorism, as indicated by the State Department.

The U.S. has designated Hamas a Foreign Terrorist Organization since October 31, 2001, under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
