Alleged infidelity sparks deadly confrontation as woman accused of murdering two-month-old infant of her husband's alleged lover in Benue

A shocking incident has unfolded in Ankyoov, Ikyogbaji Council Ward of Gwer East Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State, where 25-year-old Erdoo Ugede was taken into custody for allegedly murdering the two-month-old son of her husband's alleged mistress.

The tragic events transpired after Erdoo Ugede invited the child's mother and baby to reside with her in her marital home, despite being aware that the infant was fathered by her own husband, according to a community source.

It is reported that Erdoo Ugede, who has no children of her own, had extended an invitation to the woman and her baby to move into the family house, a request that did not arouse suspicion among relatives and neighbors.

A source revealed that Erdoo Ugede's marriage to the man is legally recognized, but she has been unable to bear children, and upon learning of her husband's infidelity and the resulting child, she asked the woman and baby to join her household.

The child's mother had briefly left the infant in Erdoo Ugede's care to visit a nearby market on the day of the incident, during which time the suspect allegedly struck the baby with an object, resulting in the infant's death.

The baby's cries alerted neighbors, who rushed into the house and apprehended Erdoo Ugede before she could escape, according to the source.

Following the incident, angry youths in the community attempted to take matters into their own hands, but were restrained by other residents who insisted that the matter be handed over to the authorities.

The source explained that while some youths sought to mete out their own brand of justice, others intervened and alerted the police, who promptly arrived from the Aliade Police Division and took Erdoo Ugede into custody before the situation could escalate further.
