Alleged extortion: FCT Police identify officers in viral video

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has identified the officers depicted in a viral video allegedly showing police personnel extorting N40,000 from a resident along Wuye-Utako Road in Abuja.

The Command also invited the complainant to appear at its headquarters and make an official statement to assist the investigation into the allegation.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Adeh said the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, had ordered investigation into the incident after the video surfaced on social media.

She said the officers shown in the video had been identified and were in custody.

“The officers depicted in the video have been identified and are in custody, while the Command also invites the complainant to the FCT Police Command Headquarters to tender his statement regarding the incident to aid disciplinary action,” Adeh said.

She urged the complainant to contact the Command’s Public Relations Officer through 07038979348 or 08180382808.

Adeh said the Command would not tolerate extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct or unprofessional conduct by its personnel.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, reiterates that the Command will not tolerate any form of extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct, or unprofessional conduct by police personnel.

n

“Any officer found culpable after due investigation will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with extant laws and regulations,” she said.

The Command also urged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct and provide relevant information that could assist investigations.

Adeh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to accountability, professionalism and respect for the rights of residents of the FCT.
