Alia sends six commissioner-nominees to Benue Assembly for screening

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has forwarded the names of six nominees to the Benue State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.

The names of the nominees were contained in a letter dated August 18, 2026, addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Alfred Emberga

The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Zape Upaa, in a statement disclosed that the nominees comprise individuals proposed to replace outgoing members of the council as well as others nominated to fill existing vacancies.

The nominees are Kuma Yenge; Roy Ashirga; Monday Angwa Egbe; Onma Ogenyi; Solomon Iorpev; and Nick Eworo.

Governor Alia, in the letter, said the nominations were aimed at strengthening the State Executive Council and injecting additional expertise and capacity into his administration.

According to him, “the nominations are made in exercise of my constitutional powers and pursuant to Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”

The governor consequently requested the Assembly to give the nominees “prompt and favourable consideration” in line with its constitutional responsibility.

The nominees are expected to appear before the House for screening and confirmation at a date to be announced by the Assembly.
