Alia appoints Eunice Ogbenyi acting Benue Head of Service

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the appointment of Dr. Eunice Ogbenyi as Acting Head of Service (HoS) following the death of the immediate past HoS, Dr. Agbogbo Ode.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Tersoo Kula.

According to the statement, Dr. Ogbenyi assumes office in an acting capacity after the demise of Dr. Ode, who served as Head of Service from 2023 until 2026.

Before her elevation, Ogbenyi was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands and Survey.

A native of Oju Local Government Area, she was born on June 12, 1973.

She obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Mathematics/Physics from the College of Education, Oju, in 1996. She later earned a B.Sc. degree in 2005, a Master’s degree in 2010, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education in 2021, all from Fr. Adasu University, Makurdi.

Ogbenyi joined the Benue State Teaching Service Board in 1998 as Principal Assistant Education Officer (PAEO II) before her transfer to the Ministry of Education in 2012, where she served in various capacities.

She held roles including Deputy Director of Education in the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS), where she headed the JCCE/NCE Unit, as well as Assistant Head of the Education Management Information System (EMIS) Unit.

Governor Alia congratulated the new Acting Head of Service and charged her to uphold professionalism and sustain ongoing reforms in the state civil service.

“As you assume this critical role, I charge you with the responsibilities, principles, and priorities that will guide your stewardship and ensure continuity, professionalism, and service to the public,” the governor said.

He urged her to align her duties with the administration’s reform agenda.

“You must ensure your official actions conform with the vision and principles of this administration to continue civil service reforms and uphold the sanctity and dignity of your office,” he added.
