ALGON commits to thorough execution of President Tinubu's Renewed Hope initiative in all 774 local government areas.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria has committed to fully implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda across all 774 local government areas in the country, underscoring its dedication to grassroots development and national progress.

This pledge was made by Iliyasu Zakari, the Acting National President of ALGON, during his inauguration in Abuja on Monday, where he emphasized the significance of the event in strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Governors' Forum to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda in rural communities.

Zakari, who also serves as Chairman of Agwara Local Government Council in Niger State, assured that the Board of Trustees would provide purposeful and development-driven leadership at the local level, further solidifying ALGON's commitment to national development.

Shaban Ohinoyi, Chairman of ALGON's Board of Trustees, described the inauguration as a pivotal moment in the association's pursuit of unity, stability, and effective leadership, noting that ALGON has overcome its internal challenges and is now poised to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Ohinoyi stated that ALGON is now "repositioned and ready to make meaningful contributions to national development, particularly at the grassroots level where governance impacts the lives of our people most directly," highlighting the association's renewed focus on driving growth and development at the local level.

During the event, Simon Lalong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC and Electoral Matters, was appointed Patron of ALGON, and he emphasized the crucial role of local governments in driving national growth and development, noting that President Tinubu has consistently advocated for local government autonomy.

Lalong noted that President Tinubu's commitment to local government autonomy, including his efforts to take the matter to the Supreme Court, demonstrates a clear focus on strengthening grassroots governance and effective administration at the local level.

The National Assembly, according to Lalong, is working to address constitutional issues surrounding local government autonomy through ongoing constitutional amendment processes, with the goal of resolving these issues and promoting greater autonomy for local governments.

Lalong added that "the constitutional amendment is ongoing, and these issues are at the front burner," and that "very soon, Nigerians will see the outcome of these efforts," highlighting the progress being made towards addressing these critical issues.
