Alausa urges parents to return children to 117 unity colleges

The Federal Ministry of Education has urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards return to their respective federal unity colleges, as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced nationwide.

The call was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, amid concerns over communications purportedly issued in the name of a body calling itself the National Parent-Teacher Association ,PTA, of the federal unity colleges.

In a statement issued on Monday night,by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the ministry disowned the association, declaring that it neither recognises nor authorised the group to speak for the 117 Federal Unity Colleges across the country.

According to the ministry, the association does not represent the individual PTAs of the colleges and has no mandate to issue directives, appeals or other communications on behalf of parents, guardians or the institutions.

The ministry therefore directed parents, guardians and members of the public to disregard communications emanating from the association, stressing that such directives have no official standing.

It advised parents and guardians to rely only on official communications from the Federal Ministry of Education and the management of their respective federal unity colleges on issues concerning their children, wards and school activities.

The ministry said the Minister had also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to effective administration of the federal unity colleges and the provision of a conducive learning environment for students throughout the 2026/2027 academic session.

Alausa, on behalf of the ministry, further assured that the government would continue to provide the necessary support for students’ academic and overall development during the new school year.
