The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has commended Senator Osita Ngwu of Enugu West for his sustained investment in the education of Nigerian youths.

Akpabio made the remarks on Friday in Enugu while serving as Special Guest of Honour at the Senator’s scholarship and bursary awards, where over ₦250 million was disbursed to deserving students from Enugu West Senatorial District.

In a statement from his media office, Akpabio described Ngwu’s initiative as a transformative empowerment that equips young Nigerians to achieve their full potential. “Senator Osita is a giver, not because he is a Senator or has wealth, but because he believes strongly that no child should be left behind in illiteracy and ignorance,” he said.

The Senate President noted that the programme represents a long-term investment in the future, supporting students who excel in universities and preparing them to become responsible citizens. He added that Ngwu has been running similar initiatives for the past 30 years, using personal savings rather than public funds.

Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, represented by his Deputy Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, also praised Ngwu for his patriotism and commitment to youth development in the state.

Senator Ngwu recounted how the scholarship programme began modestly with free lessons for a few students. “Years ago, I watched brilliant young people lose confidence—not because they lacked intelligence, but because opportunity came too late. Those small lessons became the foundation for Enugu West Academy, now serving thousands of young people across our communities,” he said.

Ngwu added, “This is not just an event. It is a statement that hard work will be seen, effort will be rewarded, and no child’s dream should be limited by circumstance. To every student preparing for examinations: keep going. Your story is still being written.”

The scholarship initiative continues to provide educational opportunities and support to thousands of students, reinforcing the senator’s long-standing commitment to human capital development in Enugu State.
