Akpabio launches APC Convention panel, tasks members with ensuring victory

Senate President Godswill Akpabio inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Convention Subcommittee on Programs and Events on Friday, tasking members to work tirelessly to guarantee the convention's success.

Akpabio's inauguration took place during the subcommittee's inaugural meeting in Abuja, where he expressed appreciation for the APC leadership under Professor Yelwata Natawe for selecting experienced members.

The Senate President noted that the subcommittee members' expertise should ensure the convention's smooth execution, stating that their recognition by the ruling APC is a privilege that should yield impressive results.

Akpabio emphasized that the subcommittee's performance should be issue-free, given the members' expertise, and he made these remarks while speaking at the inaugural meeting.

In a statement released by his Special Assistant, Jackson Udom, Akpabio highlighted the importance of maintaining organization and decorum within the subcommittee.

He specifically noted that speeches should not be repeated and that the representation from the six geopolitical zones must be carefully managed to allow governors and sub-national leaders to showcase their achievements.

Akpabio took the opportunity to reaffirm the National Assembly's support for the Tinubu-led administration's development agenda, citing key economic reforms such as exchange rate harmonization and the removal of the fuel subsidy.

He also mentioned tax reforms under the National Revenue Service (NRS) that have led to an increase in non-oil revenue, and stressed that these reforms have been in place since 2023.

Akpabio attributed recent defections to the APC to the government's performance since 2023, and emphasized that the subcommittee's task is to organize a convention that will facilitate the election of national officers.

These officers, he noted, should be capable of steering the party toward another APC government in 2027, making the subcommittee's task a crucial one.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume commended the committee members and supported Akpabio's assessment of the economy in brief remarks.

Akume urged the subcommittee members to work diligently to ensure the convention's success, echoing Akpabio's sentiments and emphasizing the importance of their task.
