Aiyedatiwa orders renovation of Ondo government buildings

AKURE — The Ondo State Government has announced plans to commence the renovation and rehabilitation of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other government buildings across the state.

The initiative, according to the government, is aimed at reducing infrastructure deficits and providing a more conducive working environment for public servants.

The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, disclosed this during an inspection of selected government buildings in Akure.

Olawoye was accompanied by the Head of Service, Chief Olusegun Odusanya, and technical professionals from the ministry.

n

He said the assessment followed a directive by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to address the deterioration of government facilities and improve workers’ welfare.

“This is yet another testament to Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and workers’ welfare.

n

“Mr. Governor gave a directive that we should reduce infrastructure deficit in all MDAs and government buildings, and that is why we are here today with our architects, engineers and quantity surveyors to begin preliminary studies,” he said.

The commissioner explained that the inspection marked the first stage of the rehabilitation process, adding that professionals would assess the condition of the facilities, identify areas requiring intervention and determine the scope of work needed.

He said the exercise would provide the government with technical data to prioritise projects and ensure proper planning and execution of the rehabilitation works.

Olawoye stressed that maintaining government buildings was critical to effective service delivery and civil servants’ productivity, noting that the administration remained committed to providing safe and functional workspaces.

Also speaking, the Head of Service, Chief Olusegun Odusanya, described the initiative as timely and significant to workers’ welfare.

Odusanya noted that many of the buildings were constructed in the late 1970s and early 1980s and had suffered serious infrastructural decay, making urgent renovation necessary.

“This reflects the Governor’s commitment to giving workers a conducive environment to discharge their responsibilities effectively,” he said.

The assessment team comprises architects, engineers and quantity surveyors from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, who will conduct detailed technical evaluations ahead of the commencement of the rehabilitation works.
