Aiyedatiwa meets APC leaders to mend fences after primaries

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has met with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State as part of efforts to reconcile aggrieved members after the party’s National Assembly primaries.

The meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure ended with stakeholders unanimously reaffirming Aiyedatiwa as the leader of the APC in the state.

They also pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

In a communique, the leaders resolved to promote internal reconciliation, strengthen party cohesion and uphold the unity and progressive ideals of the APC in Ondo State.

Chairman of the GAC, Chief Pius Akinyelure, said the meeting was the first since the primaries and showed the leaders’ commitment to resolving differences and protecting the party’s stability.

“This council last met on August 9, 2025. We thank God for preserving us and giving us another chance to discuss issues affecting Ondo State and our party,” Akinyelure said.

He noted that unity remains the party’s greatest strength, adding that disagreements from political contests are normal in a democracy and can be settled through dialogue, respect and sacrifice.

Akinyelure urged leaders and government officials to work together ahead of 2027 to surpass the state’s 2023 performance, when Ondo recorded the second-highest percentage of votes for Tinubu nationwide.

He commended Aiyedatiwa’s administration and called on members to avoid bitterness and division.

Speaking after the meeting, Akinyelure said the leaders reviewed issues affecting the party and were satisfied with steps being taken to consolidate unity.

Former Senator for Ondo North, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, said the meeting agreed to rally behind the governor and ensure all members recognize his leadership.

“Aiyedatiwa is the institution representing the APC in Ondo State,” Boroffice stated. “We will also intensify mobilisation for President Tinubu and engage the national leadership to reaffirm our solidarity.”

APC South-West Vice Chairman, Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, said over 30 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s second term and resolved that all support groups in the state should operate under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.

Kekemeke appealed to the national leadership to ensure all major stakeholders in Ondo are carried along in decisions affecting the state chapter.
