Agada defects to YPP after Labour Party exit

ABUJA — Presidential aspirant Peter Agada has announced his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the Young Progressives Party (YPP), citing disagreements over his disqualification from the party’s presidential primary.

Speaking at a media briefing attended by YPP officials, labour representatives and civil society groups, Agada said he decided to leave the Labour Party and continue his political activities on a new platform.

He said he had participated in activities leading to the party’s national convention and subsequently sought the party’s presidential ticket.

According to Agada, he was screened for the contest and began consultations nationwide before being informed that he had been disqualified from the primary.

He alleged that the decision was based on the claim that the presidential ticket had been reserved for candidates from a particular region, a position he disputed.

Agada also disclosed that his political support group, The Movement Nigeria (TMN), had initiated legal action against the Labour Party over issues arising from the primary process.

As part of his new political agenda, he unveiled a digital policy and development platform, LabourDirect.com, which he said is designed to support policy planning and implementation across various sectors of the economy.

He also announced plans for the establishment of a Labour Institute of Nigeria, which he said would focus on leadership development and policy research.

During the briefing, Agada called for intensified efforts to address insecurity and secure the release of kidnapping victims across the country.

He announced plans for a candlelight vigil in honour of victims of abductions and other violent crimes, urging greater national attention to security challenges.
