African Democratic Congress supports NBA's stance, opposes judicial interference in internal party conflicts

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has voiced its support for the Nigerian Bar Association's stance, emphasizing that the courts do not have the authority to intervene in internal party disputes, as stated by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, welcomed the NBA's warning against judicial abuse, deeming it a validation of the party's position on the court's jurisdiction.

According to Abdullahi, the NBA's intervention drew attention to the ongoing attempts to undermine the leadership of the party, led by David Mark, through judicial processes that are inconsistent with existing electoral laws.

Abdullahi asserted that the current dispute is not a legitimate legal matter, but rather a deliberate strategy aimed at exploiting judicial mechanisms for political gain and manipulation.

The party's spokesperson characterized such actions as an abuse of the court process, involving forum shopping and what the party termed 'mala fide litigation', intended to destabilize the party's lawful leadership structure.

Abdullahi emphasized that any judicial order obtained in contravention of statutory provisions remains invalid and cannot serve as a legitimate basis for actions affecting the party's leadership.

He expressed concern that certain individuals have continued to involve the courts in prohibited matters, creating confusion and attempting to project uncertainty around the party's leadership structure.

Abdullahi commended the NBA for reaffirming the rule of law and warning legal practitioners against actions that could undermine judicial integrity and democratic principles.

He noted that the NBA's call for disciplinary measures against any erring legal practitioner underscores the seriousness of the ongoing violations.

Abdullahi called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain its neutrality and impartiality, avoiding actions that could legitimize processes inconsistent with the Electoral Act.

The dispute, according to Abdullahi, extends beyond the party's internal affairs, representing a broader issue concerning the protection of democratic integrity in Nigeria.
