Aerial attack close to Dubai's airfield hurts two people from Ghana

The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since confirmed that two of its citizens were injured in a drone strike near the Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.

This incident occurred on a Wednesday, according to a statement released by Sam Ablakwa, Ghana's foreign affairs minister.

Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Defence announced that the country's air defence systems had been intercepting missiles and drones launched from Iran, with a total of 262 ballistic missiles detected since the conflict began on February 28.

Of these, 241 missiles were successfully destroyed by the UAE's air defence systems, while 19 landed in the sea and two struck the country's territory, according to the UAE defence ministry.

At least one Nigerian was among the 122 people injured during the interception of Iranian ballistic missiles in the UAE, authorities reported.

Ghana's ambassador to the UAE led officials from the embassy in Abu Dhabi and the consulate in Dubai to visit the injured Ghanaian citizens, while the foreign ministry continues to coordinate emergency consular support, Ablakwa said.

The Government of Ghana, through its foreign minister, condemned the attack and reiterated calls for a cessation in hostilities.

Ablakwa also stated that Ghana is engaging with international partners to support a United Nations resolution aimed at reducing tensions.
