ADC selects Okumgba as running mate for Rivers State governor in 2027 election

PORT HARCOURT — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has announced the nomination of Mr. David Amapakaye Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt by the party’s state chairman, Dr. Chukwudi Dimgba.

According to Dimgba, Okumgba, who hails from Okrika Local Government Area, is an administrator, businessman and politician with experience in both public and political service.

He said Okumgba has served as South-South Zonal Secretary and South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary of a political party, chaired the Appeal Committee for Senatorial Primaries in Edo State, and previously contested for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Dimgba said the party considered Okumgba’s political experience, organisational capacity and understanding of Rivers State’s political landscape as key qualities that make him a suitable running mate to the ADC governorship candidate, Hon. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson.

He added that the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket reflects the party’s commitment to good governance, accountability, economic development, security and equal opportunities for residents of the state.

The ADC chairman called on party members, supporters and Rivers residents to support the ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

He also expressed confidence that the party would continue to promote unity and provide leadership aimed at advancing the development of Rivers State.
