ADC alleges political persecution of Malami, accuses FG of intimidating opposition

BIRNIN KEBBI — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has accused the Federal Government of using judicial processes to intimidate opposition figures, alleging that former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, is being targeted because of his reported governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The allegations were contained in a statement jointly signed by the Kebbi State Chairman of the party, Sufiyanu Bala, and Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa.

The party claimed that the alleged actions were part of a broader effort to weaken the opposition at both the federal and state levels by discouraging prominent political figures from contesting future elections.

According to the statement, Malami is being subjected to judicial persecution in an attempt to force him to abandon his governorship ambition in Kebbi State.

The ADC also alleged that recent legal actions, including the seizure of assets linked to the former minister, were politically motivated and intended to intimidate him.

The party further accused the Kebbi State Government of attempting to frustrate Malami’s political aspirations through what it described as various forms of intimidation.

Despite the alleged pressure, the ADC insisted that Malami would remain in the race for the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence that no amount of intimidation would prevent him from participating in the polls.

The party also maintained that it remained undeterred by what it described as judicial and political persecution and expressed confidence that the courts would ultimately deliver justice in matters involving its members.

The Federal Government and the Kebbi State Government had not responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report. Likewise, there was no immediate official reaction from the relevant authorities regarding the ADC’s claims.
