Academic staff at AAUA embark on open-ended work stoppage due to withheld wages

AKURE — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.

In a notice signed by the chapter Chairperson, Comrade Bolu Oshodi, the union said the decision followed resolutions reached at its congress meetings held on April 28 and June 18, 2026.

According to the notice, the industrial action took effect on Friday, July 10, 2026.

ASUU described the withdrawal of services as “total, comprehensive and indefinite,” stating that the action would continue until the university authorities and the Ondo State Government pay all outstanding salary arrears.

The union said its members would not resume academic activities until salaries for May and June 2026 are fully paid.

“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the notice stated.

The industrial action is expected to disrupt academic activities at the state-owned university.

ASUU also said letters it wrote to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the salary issue had yet to receive a response, while raising concerns about funding for the institution.
