Abu Dhabi authorities detain more than 100 individuals for capturing and sharing 'inaccurate' content amid conflict

Authorities in Abu Dhabi, UAE, revealed on Friday the detention of over 100 individuals for capturing and disseminating false information during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

This development comes amidst a broader crackdown by Gulf nations on the dissemination of footage and social media posts related to Iran's attacks, which were sparked by US and Israeli military strikes against the Islamic republic.

According to a statement issued by Abu Dhabi Police on X, a total of 109 people of diverse nationalities were taken into custody for filming locations and incidents, as well as spreading inaccurate information via social media platforms during the current events.

The statement further noted that some of these individuals had shared "misleading information", emphasizing that such actions can provoke public opinion and fuel rumors within the community.

The UAE's attorney-general has thus far ordered the arrest of 35 people for publishing false information, filming, or disseminating footage of incidents related to the war, as well as glorifying "a hostile state and its political and military leadership).

Similar measures have been implemented across the Gulf region, where Iran has targeted US assets, as well as civilian infrastructure, including notable landmarks, oil and gas facilities, airports, and residential areas.

In Qatar, more than 300 people have been arrested for sharing images and what authorities described as "misleading information" during the conflict.

Bahrain and Kuwait have also taken comparable steps to address the spread of misinformation and regulate social media activity during the war.

The Gulf region has borne the brunt of Iran's retaliatory attacks in response to the US-Israeli military campaign, resulting in a heightened sense of vigilance and security measures.
