Abduction controversy: Katsina puts former assistant on hold amid connection to kidnapping of 8-year-old child

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has taken decisive action against a former Senior Special Assistant, suspending Nura Aliyu-Garwa, who was linked to an alleged kidnapping syndicate, from his role as SSA on Community Development.

The suspension was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu-Zango, in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Katsina, which revealed that Aliyu-Garwa's suspension occurred prior to his bid for an elective position.

According to the statement, Aliyu-Garwa is among the suspects allegedly connected to the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy at Sardauna Estate in the Katsina metropolis, a incident that has sparked widespread concern.

The government explained that Aliyu-Garwa's previous suspension stemmed from his alleged involvement in the diversion of empowerment materials meant for communities in Batsari Local Government Area under the state’s Community Development Programme.

It was also disclosed that the suspect later declared interest in contesting for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly to represent Batsari Constituency, a move that has raised eyebrows given his past actions.

The statement recalled that the Katsina State Police Command had earlier paraded suspects linked to the kidnapping syndicate allegedly responsible for the abduction of the minor, highlighting the ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.

Governor Dikko Radda has described the development as unfortunate, particularly in light of the suspect’s profile and past involvement in public service, which has added to the complexity of the situation.

The governor commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity and criminal activities across the state, acknowledging the crucial role they play in maintaining law and order.

He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in preventing crime.
