2027: Wike Faction Takes Control of PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) showcased unity and momentum at its 10th Elective National Convention, but beneath the surface, a different narrative unfolded, with many insiders acknowledging that the outcome was never truly in doubt.

The convention, attended by around 2,500 delegates, leaders, and observers, including officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), delivered a largely uncontested National Working Committee (NWC) and a series of motions that formalized agreements reached behind closed doors.

Key figures in attendance included Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, newly affirmed National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, and newly affirmed National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, as well as former governors and lawmakers such as Ahmed Makarfi, Sule Lamido, and Okezie Ikpeazu.

Wike argued that ignoring zoning principles had deepened divisions within the party, and he called for healing and rebuilding, acknowledging that it would take time, sacrifice, and commitment from all members.

The National Working Committee was ratified, with Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South), and Yusuf Nya Akirikwen as Deputy National Chairman (North), among others.
