2027: ‘Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us? We’ll deliver Kano for Tinubu’ — Jibrin

A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win Kano State in the 2027 presidential election, despite the political influence of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, stated this on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, while discussing the political situation in Kano ahead of the 2027 election.

Kwankwaso, a former two-term governor of Kano, is the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, in the 2027 election.

Jibrin, who has previously been associated with the Kwankwasiyya political movement, said he and other APC politicians in Kano understood the movement and its political structure.

He said, “Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us? We understand the entire dynamics, Seun, if you want me to put a bet, I will put a bet with you, we will deliver Kano for the President (Tinubu), and the president will win in the 2027 election.”

The lawmaker said the political perception surrounding Tinubu’s support in Kano should not be mistaken for the actual electoral outcome, arguing that the result of the election would provide the clearest picture of voters’ choices.

“Yes, there is always perception but I keep telling people that what will produce the real picture of what is on ground is the election results. Nigeria is a not a country that you could say you have a cooling system that could give you an idea of what the people are going through. Yes, there are challenges,” he said.

Jibrin further claimed that Tinubu’s support had increased in northern Nigeria.

“The president has never been liked so much as he is being liked in the Northern part of the country,” he said.

On the APC’s preparations in Kano, Jibrin said the party’s political leaders were already working together ahead of the election.

“In Kano, we are preparing ourselves, the governor is very much on ground and experienced. The deputy governor is extremely experienced, the deputy senate president is there. Senator Hanga is there, Kabiru Gaya is there, Shekarau is there, the chairman, appropriations committee is there (Bichi), we are meeting daily, we understand the dynamics,” he said.

Jibrin’s comments come amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Obi and Kwankwaso now campaigning together on the NDC ticket, while Tinubu seeks a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The lawmaker had also previously expressed confidence that Tinubu would defeat Kwankwaso in Kano, while acknowledging that the former governor remained influential in the state and retained a significant support base.
