2027: Voters in Ifo/Ewekoro Call for Change in Representation

A coalition of constituents, known as the "Ifo Lokan 2027 MHR Movement", has expressed strong opposition to the alleged fourth term ambition of Ibrahim Isiaka, the lawmaker representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency in Ogun State, citing the need for fairness, equity, and justice to prevail.

The group's stance was made clear on Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Abeokuta, where hundreds of members, led by spokesman Hon. Femi Akala, submitted a petition to the state party leadership.

The petition, addressed to Ogun State APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, was received by the party's Administrative Secretary, Mr. Segun Bankole, and called for the zoning of the 2027 House of Representatives ticket for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency to Ifo Local Government Area.

This move, according to the group, would promote inclusiveness and internal balance within the party, and is seen as a necessary step to ensure equity and fairness in the distribution of opportunities.

The movement rejected any attempt to extend the tenure of the incumbent, arguing that it would be contrary to the principles of equity and fairness that the APC represents, and instead emphasized the need for fairness and inclusiveness to guide the party's decisions.

As the group noted, since 1999, Ewekoro Local Government has occupied the seat for a total of 16 years, while Ifo Local Government has held it for 12 years, highlighting an imbalance that underscores the need for a fair rotational arrangement between the two local governments.

The group cited the party's constitution, specifically Article 20, which emphasizes fairness, equity, and the equitable distribution of opportunities, as the basis for their demand for zoning.

Akala cautioned that ignoring the call for zoning could have adverse implications for party unity, while granting the request would strengthen cohesion and trust among stakeholders.

He emphasized that zoning the seat to Ifo would not weaken the existing partnership between the two local governments, but rather deepen unity and ensure long-term stability within the constituency.

The agitation, Akala said, should be seen as a constructive contribution to the party's growth, and he expressed confidence in the leadership to take a decision that reflects its core values.

Akala stated that the group submits its appeal with utmost respect and confidence in the leadership, and views the voices from Ifo as voices of hope that fairness and inclusiveness will prevail as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

The group also took the opportunity to congratulate the state chairman on his re-election, and pledged continued loyalty and commitment to the progress of the party.
