2027: Senator Adeola Alleges Ogun Opposition is Targeting State Coffers

Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate in Ogun, has made a startling accusation against opposition politicians, claiming they are driven by personal interests in seeking access to the state's treasury rather than a desire to serve the people.

This allegation was made public in a statement released by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, in Abeokuta on Sunday, quoting Adeola's address to the Council of Iyalajes and Babaalajes at his senatorial office in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area.

Adeola's comments were in response to allegations by a former APC governorship aspirant, who claimed that Adeola failed to refund campaign expenses after emerging as the party's consensus candidate, a demand Adeola described as insulting and motivated by financial expectations.

The APC governorship candidate expressed his initial belief that the former aspirant was genuinely committed to Ogun's development, but later concluded that their interest was driven by personal gain, as evidenced by their subsequent defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeola stated that the intention of his opponents is clear, driven by personal interest and a desire to access the state purse, rather than a genuine desire to serve Ogun State, with some even seeking reimbursement for campaign expenses.

He cited a specific example, in which one of his opponents claimed he had reneged on promises and was seeking a refund for their expenses, further solidifying his belief that their actions were motivated by personal gain.

Adeola also addressed the legal challenge against his emergence as the APC candidate, dismissing it as a baseless suit orchestrated by his political opponents, and expressed confidence that it would not succeed due to existing legal provisions and court judgments.

He argued that politicians who defected to other parties after May 10 are ineligible to contest the forthcoming governorship election, and questioned the PDP's legal standing in Ogun due to unresolved leadership disputes within the party.

Earlier, the President of the Council of Iyalajes and Babaalajes in Remoland, Mrs Olufunke Oyelaja, pledged her group's support for Adeola's governorship bid, acknowledging his contributions to the development of the state through empowerment programmes and market construction.
