2027: Ogoni Campaigner Challenges Wike, Throws Hat into Ring for Rivers State Governorship Bid

Dr. Fabeke Douglas, a prominent figure in the Ogoni Liberation Initiative and the Liberation Movement for Good Governance, has formally announced his candidacy for the Rivers State Governorship in the 2027 election, marking a significant milestone in his political career.

This declaration was made during the unveiling of "Operation Nehemiah," a far-reaching initiative designed to stimulate economic, spiritual, and social growth throughout the state, which will serve as the cornerstone of his governorship campaign.

Douglas' decision to run for governor is seen by many as a direct challenge to Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, who has expressed his intention to influence the selection of the next governor, following Governor Siminilayi Fubara's term, with Fubara reportedly not seeking re-election despite his recent move to the All Progressives Congress.

Dr. Fabeke has revealed that he has identified a suitable political party that aligns with his vision and plans to hold his first public meeting soon to present his campaign vision to the people of Rivers State and his supporters.

With strong backing from the Ogoni community, Dr. Fabeke expressed confidence in his ability to bring about positive change and establish Rivers State as a globally competitive destination, citing his experience as a senatorial candidate and post-2023 research as the driving force behind his decision.

At an event held in Bori, Dr. Fabeke presented the 2026 budget for the Ogoni Community Empowerment Foundation, highlighting key projects aimed at developing the Global Entrepreneurship City and advancing community empowerment initiatives.

Notably, since the creation of Rivers State on May 27, 1967, no Ogoni indigene has held the position of governor, a historical barrier that Dr. Fabeke is determined to break in 2027.
