2027: Nasarawa lawmaker warns against religious, ethnic politics

Solomon Akwashiki, a member representing Lafia Central Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has warned against politics of religion and ethnicity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said such politics must be avoided to create room for competent leaders who would deliver real dividends to the people.

Akwashiki, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, made this known on Tuesday during a meeting with various groups at his office in Lafia.

The lawmaker said that within three years in office, he had executed various projects with direct impact on the lives of his constituents.

He decried the attitude of some politicians who exploit religion for cheap political gains.

“Elections should be about competence and merit, devoid of primordial sentiments.

n

“I call on the people of my constituency and Nigerians in general to reject religious and ethnic politics so that competent leaders can emerge,” he advised.

Akwashiki added that his ambition to represent Lafia/Obi federal constituency would not deter him from continuing with his development initiatives aimed at alleviating the plight of his constituents, especially those at the grassroots.

He solicited prayers and support from all stakeholders to enable him to succeed.

The SDP candidate also assured the people of more empowerment programmes and people-oriented projects if elected to the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

He urged constituents to continue living in peace and to tolerate one another, irrespective of political, religious, or ethnic affiliations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker hosted officials from the Youth Forum of Ungwan Sarkin Fada, Lungun Wambai, Bakin Kasuwa, and Angwan Yalwa.

Others were the Voice of Mankwal Development Association and Gida-Gida for Mr Project, all from Lafia Local Government Area, who came to identify with Akwashiki and assured him of their support.
